Last Friday, students from Institut Ramon Berenguer IV embarked on an engaging educational journey during an Escolab activity focused on stroke awareness. Led by Álvaro Lambea Gil, a predoctoral researcher at the Cerebral Vascular Diseases group, alongside Elena Muiño Acuña and Paula Villatoro, researchers at the Stroke Genetics and Pharmacogenomics group, the event delved deep into the complexities of stroke and genetic research.
During the session, Lambea provided a straightforward explanation of what a stroke is, its pathophysiology, and the treatment approaches. Meanwhile, Elena provided insights into CADASIL, bioinformatics, and addressed inquiries regarding the scientific career paths.
In a hands-on workshop, students got to witness a demonstration of DNA extraction led by Paula. With her guidance, students learnt more about the techniques used in genetic research.
The visit was awesome! It got students really excited about learning more in neuroscience and genetics. They couldn’t wait to dive deeper into science!
