The Center for Genomic Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital hosted the 29th International Stroke Genetics Consortium (ISGC) Workshop from October 12 to 14, 2023, where leading experts, scientists, and clinicians from across the globe convened to share insights, research findings, and technological advancements in the field of stroke genetics.

With the theme “Genomic Medicine: From Bench to Bedside, and Back Again” the 29th ISGC Workshop aimed to bridge the gap between genomic research and its practical application in patient care.

The workshop kicked off with ISGC Working Group pre-meetings on Thursday, October 12th, setting the stage for two full days of intensive programming on Friday, October 13th, and Saturday, October 14th. Attendees were able to assist a series of Keynote Lectures and Scientific Sessions, featuring original science presented by renowned experts of stroke genetics.

Cristina Gallego  from our group had the opportunity to share her research project in an oral presentation called “Women are biologically younger than men at time of intracerebral hemorrhage” (See the abstract attached).

In addition to the research presentations, Israel Fernández, as the Chair of the ISGC, presided over the award ceremony. During this ceremony, notable recognitions were conferred, including the Michaele Sale and Travel Scholarship Awards and accolades for the best abstract and poster presented at the workshop. Among the recipients, Natalia Cullell, one of our group members, was honored with the prestigious Travel Scholarship Award.

The 29th ISGC Workshop proved to be a pivotal event, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange among the global community of experts dedicated to unraveling the complexities of stroke genetics. As advancements in genomics continue to influence medical practices, this workshop played a crucial role in shaping the future landscape of genomic medicine.
