CALL 2026/006: Predoctoral PFIS Contract Offer

Position:
We are seeking a candidate to jointly apply for a PFIS predoctoral contract (Predoctoral Training in Health Research) in the March 2026 call of the Strategic Action in Health of the Instituto de Salud Carlos III.

The selected candidate will carry out their PhD thesis within the framework of the FIS project awarded in 2025, TIME-ICH, a study on hematoma growth in hemorrhagic stroke using DNA methylation, in the Neurovascular Pharmacogenomics and Genetics Group (https://strokemics.com/) at the Sant Pau Research Institute (Barcelona).
The work will be conducted in a highly translational environment, integrating epigenetic, clinical, and imaging data, with the aim of identifying therapeutic targets to reduce hemorrhage growth.

Candidate Profile and Requirements:

  • University degree granting access to doctoral studies (Bachelor’s + Master’s) in Bioinformatics, Biomedicine, Genetics, Biotechnology, or related disciplines.

  • Alternatively, degrees in Mathematics, Statistics, or other quantitative fields, provided that knowledge in bioinformatics is demonstrated.

  • Previous research experience (Bachelor’s/Master’s thesis, internships, publications).

  • Competitive academic record.

  • Interest in biomedical research, particularly in genomics and genetic/omics data analysis.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Fulfillment of the eligibility requirements for a PFIS contract according to the current call of the Instituto de Salud Carlos III.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in bioinformatics and/or statistical analysis.

  • Proficiency in languages and tools such as R, Python, Bash, bioinformatics pipelines, and Linux environments.

  • Good level of scientific English (reading and writing).

Conditions:

  • Appointment at the center will be subject to the awarding of the PFIS contract.

  • Application for a PFIS predoctoral contract with a maximum duration of 4 years, in accordance with the conditions established in the official call.

  • Doctoral training within an international group with extensive experience in genetics, pharmacogenomics, and stroke, in a leading biomedical research institute.
