PhD candidates Paula Boldo and Laia Mariné participated in the XV Chromatin and Epigenetics Symposium, organized by the Chromatin and Epigenetics Section of the Catalan Society of Biology (SCB). This event brought together leading experts in the fields of epigenetics and gene regulation, offering a dynamic environment for scientific exchange and networking.
This symposium marked their first scientific conference as part of their doctoral training, and both researchers took the opportunity to present their ongoing work:
-
Paula Boldo gave an oral presentation on the preliminary findings of her study, “Sex-Stratified X-Chromosome Variants in Ischemic Stroke: Linking Genetic Risk to Chromatin State.” Her research investigates the sex-specific role of X-chromosome variants in ischemic stroke and their relationship with chromatin state, aiming to uncover epigenetic mechanisms underlying sex differences in stroke risk.
-
Laia Mariné presented a scientific poster titled “Epigenome-Wide Association Study of Post-Stroke Respiratory Infections: Linking Epigenetics and Clinical Outcomes.” Her work explores how epigenetic alterations may contribute to susceptibility to respiratory infections following stroke, and their potential association with patient outcomes.
Attending the symposium allowed both researchers to share their findings, receive constructive feedback, and engage with the broader scientific community. Their participation highlights the group’s ongoing commitment to training the next generation of scientists and contributing to cutting-edge research in chromatin biology and epigenetics.
